it is a living embodiment of Sanatan Dharma’s eternal principles. ABOUT SHREE KHATU SHYAM JI - THE DIVINE STORY

The Legend of Barbarik - The Greatest Warrior Who Became Kali Yuga's Protector

Shree Khatu Shyam Ji’s original name was Barbarik, a formidable warrior of the Mahabharata era. Born to Ghatotkacha (son of Bheem) and Maurvi (from the Hidimba clan), Barbarik mastered warfare from childhood and earned divine blessings that made him invincible.

The Three Divine Arrows: Through intense penance, Lord Shiva granted Barbarik three infallible arrows the first would mark all enemies, the second would destroy them, and the third remained as reserve, never needed. Agni Dev blessed him with a bow that could conquer all three worlds.

The Ultimate Sacrifice: When Barbarik sought to join the Kurukshetra war, his mother made him promise to support the losing side. Recognizing that Barbarik’s power could single-handedly decide the war’s outcome, Lord Krishna disguised himself as a Brahmin and tested him. Krishna explained that the battlefield required the head of a brave warrior as offering. Without hesitation, Barbarik offered his head as Guru Dakshina (offering to the teacher)

Krishna’s Blessing: Moved by this supreme sacrifice, Lord Krishna blessed Barbarik with immortality through worship. He declared: In Kali Yuga, you shall be worshipped as Shyam, and whoever takes your name with sincere devotion shall have all their wishes fulfilled.

The Eternal Witness: Krishna applied divine nectar to Barbarik’s severed head and placed it atop a hill, allowing him to witness the entire Mahabharata war. When asked who won the war, Barbarik’s head testified that victory belonged solely to Krishna’s wisdom and the power of Sudarshan Chakra.

The Temple in Khatu: After the war, Barbarik’s head was buried in Khatu, Rajasthan. In 1027 CE, King Roop Singh Chauhan received a divine vision instructing him to excavate the sacred head from Shyam Kund and establish a temple. Thus, Barbarik became known as Khatu Shyam the deity of Khatu worshipped by the name Shyam.

Today, millions of devotees believe that sincere prayers to Baba Shyam resolve every difficulty, making him the true “Hare Ka Sahara“the ultimate refuge for those in need.
